You've Been Waiting For This And You Didn't Even Know It

To say I've been busy lately is a massive understatement.

I've been drawing my ass off. Work is moving forward full steam on the Bowling For Soup comic. This is going to be a real fun book that you wont have to be a fan of the band to enjoy. Brett Pinson is even writing a new story that combines some elements of our childhood television watching and creates a pretty funny adventure that the guys are throw into.

I have new scripts for Killer Robots Love You from Chuck Moore so work will start up on that strip again soon. I'm really looking forward to getting that series going again because it's just so much fun to work on. And I'm doing character designs for an all new comic strip that will hopefully be launching this fall.

Work continues on the Chiller Drive-In comic and there will be some big news on this front coming in the future. Bur non of this is the reason why I missed a whole week of updates here.

For years I've complaining about the local comic con in this area. I don't like that not only doesn't it focus on comics, the artist are treated like dirt and the promoter seems to not even want us at the show. That's fine. If he want to treat us like shit we're really the assholes for going back to the show year after year. But we really had no choice. If we wanted to connect with local fans, they were the only game in town. Until now.

I decided to put up or shut up and I'm helping my good friend, Dennis Barger, promote a brand new show here in the metro Detroit area. Detroit FanFare will be a return to the glory days of comic cons in this area. This show will me a major force on the con scene for years to come and it all will start by pay homage to what has come before, the Detroit Triple FanFare, which was the precursor to the San Diego Comic Con. I promise this will be the biggest, best, must fun comic con to go on in Detroit in years. It will take a lot of work and some times it might take me away from GAPO the Clown, but that's just the way it has to be. I'm proud to be a part of what will be a new chapter in comic con history. Keep checking the Detroit FanFare web site for updates. If you love comics just wait and see what we have in store for you. You're going to love it.

A Comic Book Weekend

Quick update today. This weekend I'll be at the Capitol Cherry Con in Traverse City, MI. If you're in the area come on out. This is my first time doing this con and I've heard nothing but good things.

If you live in the Detroit area and you can't make it up north, head out to the Kid's Read Comics convention at the Dearborn Public Library. This is a great way to met local comic creators and get kids reading.

See, there's no excuse not to do something comic booky this weekend.

Where's The Fat Ass Been

Con season is in full swing as you can tell by my absence from the blog. Oh yeah, and the missed updates. I have been working though, I swear.

I'm working on two new comics, I'm doing character designs for an all new comic strip and I've been working on some other stuff that will be baring fruit in the near future.

It was great meeting some brand new GAPO the Clown fans at Motor City Comic Con and the Summit City Comic Con. Our favorite hate filled clown is spreading like a virus and I couldn't be happier. I'm looking forward to Cherry Capital Con. I've heard nothing but good things and it should be a blast.

Motor City Comic Con

This week end (May 14th - 16th) I'll be at the Motor City Comic Con in Novi, MI. Come on down and say hi. I'll have my son with me on Friday and Saturday so keep the off color jokes to a minimum.

A bonus for all you Chiller Drive-In fans; I'll be doing $10 color sketch cards at the Chiller Drive-In booth from 3 - 4pm on Saturday and 1 - 2pm on Sunday. And if you're lucky you might be able to pick up the Free Comic Book Day comic we did this year (while supplies last). See you there!

Here's the TV spot promoting our FCBD give away here in the Detroit area.

More Announcements

More announcements in the latest Comic Related podcast. Some big stuff on the horizon and some great news for the Metro Detroit area. Check out the link.

Back In The Saddle?

Well, it's late in the day but technically still on time.

What a couple of weeks I've had. one hundred and twenty sketch cards before deadline, two Comic Cons and two major announcements later and I think we're good to go again. Now where to start...

I will have sketch cards in two new sets coming from Breygent Marketing. I've done sixty cards each for the Cartoon Sketch Project and The Golden Age of Comics. These sets were a lot of fun to work on and I look forward to seeing how people respond to them. I have three artist proof cards from each set. Just email me if you're interested in commissioning one.

I had a great time at the Gem City Comic Con and more recently C2E2 in Chicago. I big thanks to Chuck Moore, John Wilson and the crew from Comic Related for allowing me some time at their booth. C2E2 was quite the experience. It's been a long time since I've been to a big show and this one was a lot of fun. I think they did a great job for a first year show. Could they improve in some areas, sure. The facility was massive and I think it made it hard to get to some of the panels and signings in a timely fashion, especially if you where stuck waiting in a line for one of the more popular creators, but I think that's something that will get worked out. The C2E2 staff and volunteers were all super friendly and very pleasant to deal with. Something that you don't always find when dealing with show organizers. Chicago was a very expensive city, but a very friendly and welcoming one.

And now for the announcements. If you listened to the pod cast I linked to last week you already know that Brett Pinson and I will be doing a comic for the band Bowling For Soup. We could not be more excited about this project. The character designs are done and the story outline was approved so look for a press release with some preview art coming soon.

And for all you GAPO the Clown fans, work has begun on a GAPO the Clown animated short. That's right, everyone's favorite hate filled clown and his supporting cast will be coming to life in 2D animated splendor. The test animation that was done has been used as a little plug for the web site and if you where lucky you were one of the people that received it as a text message at C2E2. If not don't fear. I'll be posting it hear soon enough. We hope to have both project ready this fall.

And lastly, I'll be at the Pittsburgh Comicon this weekend. I'll be set up with my good freind Kevin Leen so just look for his booth in the program and you'll find me. See you there.

Comic Related Signing Schedule

My times have been scheduled for my C2E2 signings. I will be at the Comic Related booth at 2pm on Friday and 11am on Saturday. I'll have a limited number of GAPO the Clown comic as well as prints, the very last of the first Wolfman Mac comic book and a Killer Robots Love You print made exclusively for C2E2. Plus you might be on hand when a big announcement is made about GAPO the Clown. Come on down and bring the kiddies.

The Big Announcement

it's official! Brett Pinson and I made a huge announcement over the weekend at the Gem City Comic Con. Now you can go hear it for yourself. Thanks to Comic Related for giving us the platform to get the word out.

News, news and news

Got back last night from the Gem City Comic Con. Had a great time at the show and meet a lot of great folks. This is one of the best one day shows around and I'm really glad I did it again this year and I'm sure I'll be back again next year (April 3rd).

Brett Pinson and I made a pretty big announcement on a Comic Related pod cast. I'm not going to spill the beans here just yet because I want you to go check it out there, but look for a press release on Facebook and other social and comic news sites soon.

Sorry for the continued lack of new strips here, but as you can guess I've been super busy of late. I literally just finished a job I was working on and now I'm putting the final touches on some prints for my next show. I will be at C2E2 this weekend. I'm heading there for some meetings and Chuck Moore from that wonderful site ComicRelated.com, which you may have heard me mention here before, has offered to allow me to do a signing with them. So some time on Friday I will be signing for a couple of hours at the Comic Related booth. There booth is located at spots 1363, 1365, 1367 on the floor plan which is real close to artist alley. I'll try and get a map up soon. Hope to see you there.
