Moving Forward

So the new story line is now underway. The big five hundredth strip is behind us. So what do we
have to look forward to from the clown now? Well, something special is in the works. I should have something BIG to announce in a couple of weeks. Maybe a couple of things. I'll also be updating my convention list for 2010. And for those of you that are interested I will be adding a print of the Celebrating #500 comic strip to the GAPO the Clown store, so check back for that.

Celebrating #500

In celebration of the 500th strip, here is a little something special. The first ever double
sized GAPO the Clown strip. On Friday we'll start an all new story line.

Finally #500

And there you have it. Strip #500. To be honest, I never thought I'd make it this far.

When I started this strip it was just a way for me to have something to do to help me stay sane. Had you asked me back in 2004 If I thought I'd still be doing this strip at the start of 2010 I would have told you "no way". I'm just having to much fun with it to stop at this point. I think I have another three or four years left in me. At least.

This is going to be a big year for all things GAPO the Clown. I'm going to have some big news in the next month or so, and some smaller, but no less important, announcements coming soon. I'm very happy with the work that's been done and very excited about what's coming up next.

Anniversary

Well, we've almost made it. Friday will be the 500th GAPO the Clown comic strip. And, true to form, we'll be in the midst of a story. So as a bonus I'm planning to do an extra strip that will pop up over the weekend (I hope). I'm planning some other stuff, some changes that were talked about before, for later in the month, but we'll go into that when it happens. I'm also planning a contest that will be offered to people who are Facebook fans of GAPO, so is you're not a fan yet, go become one. Now.

Back in Business

Okay, we're back in business. Wow, I can't believe how busy this holiday was for us. I hated taking two weeks off from the strip, especially unplanned the way it was, but I just could not get any work done. I do have to admit that the time away from drawing was nice. I didn't realize how much I needed a brake from comic work. I feel energized now. In the last three days I've drawn a full comic page and three strips, finished inking a Killer Robots Love You strip and written a shit load of stuff down. I'm actually feeling productive. Hopefully I can keep this up.

I did get a bit of bad news over Christmas va-ca. I found out that I have tendentious in the thumb on my drawing hand. It's not to bad right now. I wear a wrist brace to help with carpale tunnel syndrome and the doctor said that will help a bit. I will probably have to get cortisone shots at some point.

If my count is right this strip is number 497, so number 500 will drop next Friday (not that it's anything special). I was hoping to do something to mark the occasion, but as with the other "landmark" numbers it seemed to have completely snuck up on me. I do think this is an achievement thought, so I'll have to do something to celebrate. We'll see.

Holidays

Well Christmas kicked my ass this year. I spent the week before running around like a headless chicken and since Christmas eve I've been fight a head cold that seems to be getting worse rather then better. I'm planning on getting at least one strip up this week, but New Years eve means lots of drinking, so no promises.

Hopefully you all had as much fun over the holidays as I did. I never gets old seeing my son get all excited over Santa coming. Got to spend quality time with my wife's family and most of mine (we missed you Helen). It's crazy how nuts it can be having everyone over, with all the running around you have to do, but it's sure is fun when you get to sit down and just enjoy everyone's company. Hopefully we'll be able to get together more in the new year.

Once the week is over I'll be back to my regular work schedule. Here's hoping that the heat in my studio gets fix this week. Happy New Year everyone.

new storyline

Strap in kids.

This is definitely going to be the most edgy story I've done with Gapo. All I can promise is you will be entertained. Stay tuned.

movie review

I went and saw GI Joe last night. It didn't suck.

Don't get me wrong, it's not the best movie ever made, but it's not even close to being as bad as some loons on the "net" are screaming about. There were some story choices that I don't think I would have made, but screen writers have to set up situations for someone to be able to get conflict and resolution in two hours. They can't count on everyone having read all the comic books.

I only had two real problems with this film. First the cursing. Why, in a movie based on a TOY line that was aimed at KIDS and another TOY line aimed at KIDS to tie into the movie that is produced by a TOY company that makes their money selling TOYS to KIDS, does there have to be so much cursing. Okay not a lot, but enough for my seven year old to turn to me and say; "Yeah do they keep saying bad words." Sure it's real language that would be said in those "real" situations, but in a world were the suits delude everything for the masses I'm surprised that they would put the cursing in.

Second; why would you put a mouth on the mask of a character that does not talk. That was the oddest change I've ever seen made in a comic to movie adaption. the man did not say one word. Everyone knew about a quarter way through the film he was going to speak. Why put a mouth on the mask. Just silly.

This was a fun, summer, popcorn movie. If your looking to just disengage your brain and enjoy some time at the movies this is a good choice.

bill gladman

Today is the first of the guest strips for the prolific Bill Gladman. you can find out more about the other projects Bill's working on and even pop in and say hi over at the official Bill Gladman forum page. Bill's a great guy and I think you're going to really enjoy reading his take on GAPO. I know I did.

I'm almost finished with the new strips for the next GAPO the Clown comic book. The new strips for the comic are written by my good friend Brett Pinson of Boomtown Scabs fame. I can't wait to get this in your hands. I will be posting the cover as soon as it's colored.

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

guest artist

Well folks, this is the last strip in this story line. Starting on Friday we'll be running some guest strips by my buddy Bill Gladman.

I will begin work on the long awaited GAPO the Clown FULL COLOR comic and the complete black and white collection. Keep you eyes glued to this space for more info on both. I'll be posting the cover art for both as so as they are finished. I'm having a lot of fun working on the new comic. I think you all are going to love it.
